This intensive two-day, CPD accredited training course equips frontline workers with the skill, knowledge and resources to facilitate transformational group work using Rock Pool’s nationally recognised Hope2Recovery Toolkit. Incorporating these toolkits into your practice will enhance your support to domestic abuse survivors, helping them navigate the path from trauma to recovery.
In 2021 the Sex Education Forum commissioned a report to look at relationship and sex education in schools. It showed that over a third (37%) of young people have learned nothing about ‘power imbalances in relationships’, and almost three in ten (29%) learned nothing about how to recognise grooming for sexual exploitation.
Add in the growth of the internet, pornography and influential elements in society that promote misogyny, toxic masculinity and homophobia it is hardly surprising that individuals sometimes don’t know whether they are in an abusive relationship or not.

Developed by Sue Penna, the Hope2Recovery Toolkit is an innovative, evidence-based group intervention whose underlying methodology is rooted in trauma-informed practice. This unique programme provides trainers with a robust framework to help adults who have or are experiencing domestic abuse make the first steps to recovery.

Hope2Recovery Toolkit Overview
The Hope2Recovery Toolkit enables facilitators to provide group members with the knowledge that helps them to understand, better manage, and take appropriate action to keep themselves and their children safe (physically and emotionally) in an abusive relationship. It also helps participants to consolidate this learning to enable future life plans to be based on the safety of themselves and their children and to identify and signpost to ongoing support.
The Hope2Recovery Toolkit consists of six weekly one-hour sessions for any adult who is experiencing/has experienced domestic abuse and has been designed to help participants develop an understanding of:
- The tactics perpetrators of domestic abuse and coercive control use
- How the experience of coercive control can affect how people think
- The difference between healthy / unhealthy and abusive relationships
- Their parenting role and the challenge of being a nurturing parent while in an abusive relationship
The Hope2Recovery Toolkit has been designed to enable groups to be run through live virtual sessions, or in the room.
For those already trained in the Domestic Abuse Recovery Toolkit we run a one-day “bolt on course” to upskill facilitators to deliver the Hope2Recovery Toolkit.
